Exeter Reservoir, Devon

Co Create Architects have been appointed to transform this once-redundant service reservoir in Exeter into a contemporary luxury property. Our design breathes new life into the space, converting the disused building into a family dwelling with all the modern amenities. It was important to retain the essence of the original building, with much of the original structure being retained.

The Concept
The concept was to create a high end property while being honest about the previous use of the building, retaining exposed concrete and raw natural materials. To ensure environmental harmony, existing hedgerows and trees along the property boundary were retained, promoting a positive impact on the environment. Special attention was given to ecological considerations, encouraging habitat preservation for protected species.
Contemporary Aesthetic
The design also sought to blend contemporary aesthetics with the building’s industrial heritage, creating a distinctive architectural language. Large openings were introduced to maximise natural light and offer uninterrupted views of the surrounding landscape, further integrating the structure into its environment. Interior spaces were configured to enhance spatial flow while maintaining a sense of intimacy, using natural textures and a restrained palette to complement the building’s raw character.
