St Edmunds Outpatients, Torbay

The architectural design placed the needs of the community at its core. Our role involved reconfiguring internal layouts to improve the clarity, functionality, and flow of the building. By enhancing the relationship between clinical rooms, reception areas, staff zones, and circulation spaces, we aimed to create an environment that is both efficient for service delivery and welcoming for patients. The design incorporated new infant feeding and group activity rooms, refurbished clinical suites, and improved staff support areas. Material selection, lighting design, and finishes were carefully considered to promote hygiene, warmth, and a calm user experience. The building now feels lighter, more spacious, and significantly better suited to the needs of modern healthcare provision.

This project was about more than just refurbishment; it was a strategic move to bring a broader range of services together under one roof. The redesigned facility now supports an array of functions, including speech and language therapy, paediatric clinics, podiatry, mental health services, and specialist nursing, alongside early years and family health initiatives. Community rooms have been designed to flexibly support both clinical functions and wellbeing sessions, such as antenatal classes and parenting support groups. Our architectural involvement extended throughout the design and construction stages, ensuring that spatial arrangements, accessibility, and technical detailing were all tailored to support seamless service integration.
