Paignton Zoo, Devon

Co Create Architects were invited to explore ways to reactivate a quieter area of Paignton Zoo. We saw potential in a corner near the bird enclosures and developed a concept that brings together education, play and calm, all within a compact footprint. At the heart of the proposal is an immersive dome, offering flexible space for learning, storytelling and interaction. The Concept
Working closely with the zoo team, we shaped a layout that follows existing paths and sightlines, introducing new reasons to pause and explore. The proposed structures are modest in scale but offer real potential for community partnerships and new revenue. The immersive space can support schools, events and seasonal activity while the outdoor event space and refreshment shack offer flexible and family friendly additions.
Pro Bono Work
As a practice, we carried out this work free of charge. We believe good design should open doors to curiosity, to learning and to the simple joy of being in a well considered space. This project reflects our wider commitment to creative and thoughtful architecture that gives more than it takes.
