Midvale Villa, Torbay

Midvale Villa is a residential conversion project involving the adaptive reuse of a former secondary school in Paignton. Working with a local contractor, we were appointed as the architects to lead the transformation of this redundant educational building into a small development of four distinctive apartments.

The Apartments
The design retained much of the original structure and external character, preserving its historic presence within the streetscape, while reconfiguring the internal layout to suit contemporary residential use. Each apartment was planned to make the most of the building’s generous proportions and existing openings, with open-plan living areas and well-scaled rooms that offer clarity and comfort in their layout.
Local Landmarks
This project offered an opportunity to breathe new life into a disused local landmark, maintaining its architectural presence while reimagining it for a new purpose. The result is a small but distinctive development that reflects a considered approach to conservation-led contemporary design.
