Anchor Inn Development, Chudleigh
The Anchor Barn project brings new life to a disused site at the heart of Chudleigh Knighton, once home to the historic Anchor Inn. Following years of dereliction after the inn’s demolition, our design transforms the plot into a contemporary residential cluster that respects its heritage and rural setting. At its core, a characterful 18th-century barn is sensitively converted into a modern home, with original materials and features retained and enhanced to celebrate its historic charm.

The Approach
Three new dwellings are introduced to restablish the street frontage lost in 2015. These homes take cues from the village’s vernacular architecture, stone, render, and slate, while offering a distinctly modern interpretation. Together, the barn conversion and new houses restore a sense of cohesion to the village edge and improve the quality of the public realm.
The Ambition
This scheme reflects our commitment to context-led design: blending old and new, architecture and landscape, to create places rooted in history yet built for the future. The result is a balanced and beautifully resolved addition to Chudleigh Knighton’s evolving built fabric.
