Co Create Architects is pleased to announce the successful completion of Frensham House, a specialist care home refurbishment project in Brixham, Devon.
Appointed by Edleigh Construction, our team provided architectural services to support the transformation of an existing care home into a specialist residential facility for individuals living with Prader Willi Syndrome.
The project has now reached practical completion and is being handed over for occupation, providing a purpose designed environment tailored to the complex clinical and behavioural needs of residents while creating high quality facilities for staff.
Located in Brixham within the Torbay area, the scheme demonstrates how existing care facilities can be adapted and modernised to meet the evolving needs of specialist care providers across Devon.

Transforming an Existing Care Home
The refurbishment of Frensham House involved the comprehensive upgrade and reconfiguration of the existing building to create a safe, functional and supportive care environment.
The completed development provides a modern setting designed around the day to day requirements of residents and care teams, ensuring the building supports both wellbeing and operational efficiency. Working closely with London Building Control throughout the project, the design was developed and delivered in accordance with current Building Regulations requirements, helping to create a compliant and fit for purpose facility for specialist care provision.
Working within an existing building presented a number of challenges that required careful planning and close coordination throughout the design and construction process. Through collaboration with Edleigh Construction and the wider project team, the scheme was successfully elivered within a demanding programme.

Supporting Specialist Social Care Provision
Across Torbay, Torquay and Devon there is an increasing need for high quality specialist care facilities that provide safe and supportive environments for residents with complex needs.
Projects such as Frensham House highlight the important role architecture can play in improving care settings through thoughtful design, refurbishment and adaptation of existing buildings.
By creating spaces that support residents, staff and care providers alike, well designed social care facilities can have a lasting positive impact on the people who use them every day.
