We are pleased to share the completion of the Pain Management Clinic refurbishment at Plymouth Marjon University, delivered by Co Create Architects in collaboration with University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust and Nevada Construction.
This project supports the continued growth of pain management services in Plymouth by transforming an existing administrative area into a calm, modern clinical environment. The new space improves the experience for both patients and staff while responding to the changing needs of healthcare delivery.

The brief centred on reworking underused administrative space into a fully functional healthcare setting. The result is a clean, practical and welcoming clinic that balances patient comfort with operational efficiency.
Through close collaboration with stakeholders, the design focuses on clarity, flow and a calm atmosphere. Patients are welcomed into an environment that feels considered and reassuring, while staff benefit from a layout that supports daily clinical activity. The works included a full internal strip out, the introduction of new partitions to form consultation and treatment areas, upgraded building services to meet clinical standards, and the use of durable, high quality finishes to create a cohesive modern interior.

Healthcare design requires a careful balance between function and wellbeing. Our approach focuses on creating spaces that meet technical requirements while improving how people feel within them.
For this project, that meant shaping uncluttered interiors that help reduce patient anxiety, alongside clear wayfinding and logical spatial planning. Clinical rooms have been designed to be efficient and well organised, with thoughtful use of lighting to create a welcoming and comfortable setting. The completed clinic supports high quality care delivery and contributes to a more positive patient journey.

This project highlights the value of a collaborative approach. Working closely with University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust and Nevada Construction, the scheme moved smoothly from early design through to completion.
From initial strip out to final finishes, the contractor team delivered the project with care and attention to detail, ensuring the design intent was realised. The finished space is both practical and refined, ready to support the local community.

It is always rewarding to see a project progress from concept to completion, particularly when it will support essential healthcare services for years to come.
The new Pain Management Clinic at Plymouth Marjon University offers a flexible environment that can adapt alongside the needs of University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust. It demonstrates how thoughtful design and collaborative delivery can create meaningful improvements in healthcare settings.
