As we wrap up 2023, we would like to take a moment to thank our clients, our team, and those who have worked with us over the last year. We have had the opportunity to work with some wonderful people on amazing projects throughout the year, and we continue to grow our presence across project sectors.
We were delighted to share the relocation of our Plymouth office to Alma Yard—a building steeped in local history, transformed into an inspiring and inviting space for creatives and people alike.
We kicked off 2023 with a commitment to our planet by proudly announcing that we have officially signed up to Architects Declare—a global movement of architects and designers committed to taking urgent action on the climate and biodiversity crisis. Before the hype of the summer months, our dedicated team of architects and designers took a stand for environmental responsibility with a successful beach clean on Ness Cove, Shaldon, and the neighbouring Teignmouth beaches.
The use of sustainable materials is at the forefront of our decision-making at Co Create Architects. Our project, ‘The Black Box,’ featured on the Architects Journal website this year. Sustainability was an essential consideration in the design; the entire frame was constructed from timber, a conscious gesture to minimise the embodied carbon in the build.
At Co Create Architects, we pride ourselves on extensive experience working with listed buildings, a theme that continued throughout 2023. As a practice, we understand the importance of preserving their historical significance, while creating functional homes. We’ve completed projects such as the Priory in the picturesque village of Ipplepen and a unique extension on a beautiful castle in Crediton.
This year wasn’t all work; we also successfully planned a golf series that brought together local businesses for friendly competition and networking, all while supporting a great cause—The Children’s Hospice South West.
2023 saw a surge in healthcare projects for Co Create, consolidating and improving our team’s knowledge in the sector. The summer witnessed the official opening of the new Patient Discharge Assessment Unit at Mount Gould Hospital, where we were proud to have been part of the refurbishment design.
The latter part of the year has seen us commence design work on projects at Torbay, Royal Devon and Exeter, and Derriford Hospital, all continuing into 2024 and beyond.
For the past few years, Co Create has exhibited at the Westpoint Build It Live Show to showcase our company and services directly to the public. This year, we broadened our horizons, venturing down to sunny Cornwall for the 10th annual Cornwall Home Improvement and Self Build Show—a successful day engaging with the general public and introducing the Co Create name to Cornwall.
Autumn 2023 was an exciting time for the Co Create team as we humbly received the ‘Best Architect’ award at the Exeter Property Awards! This fantastic achievement stems from the continual efforts and growth of our company, and it was amazing to get recognised in our sector for our work in the Exeter area and across the Southwest.
The end of the year has seen the launch of our 2024 company brochure, showcasing our services, sectors, and company profile.
We’re excited to see the practice flourishing, and 2024 aims to be an amazing year. From new team members to a new office in Exeter and exciting projects, watch this space!
Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year from all at Co Create Architects.
